Shaneeza Hussain and Jason Sinhaal have known each other since their primary school days.

The pair tied the knot in December last year, ending a chapter of their lives and opening a new one.

Shaneeza shared with The Sunday Times how their journey together began.

She was in class four and Jason was in class six.

“He saw me in school and he sent me his number through his friend while heading home,” Shaneeza said.

“I came home and was shy but curious so I used my brother’s phone to call and so we talked.”

She said after 12 years they crossed each other’s path once again.

“Four years back, when he was here in Fiji, we were talking again,” she said.

“Then he migrated to the USA and after that he joined the US military and he had to go training for several weeks.

“He went away for seven more weeks and when he came back he messaged me and the wait was over.

“Living far away from a person you love tends to make your bond stronger and that happened in our case.”

Shaneeza said although they had often talked over the years, they had never been out on a date. But this became a reality in December last year.

“When he came back to Fiji we had our first breakfast date at GPH so technically it was three days before our big day.

“It just felt right and I just started to feel very happy and got butterflies seeing him.”

While Jason was in South Korea, he got her portrait done by an artist and through the iphone app FaceTime he proposed to her and without any second thoughts she said yes.

Their Christian wedding ceremony was an evening event held at Jai Narayan College.

“A day before our wedding we had our haldi and mehendi and sangeet ceremony which was held at the primary school hall where we first met.”

The couple’s wedding cake was done by Cakeology Delight, photography and videography by Vivid Memories, hair and makeup by HMU by Hair and Makeup Fiji and outfits by David’s Bridal. Shaneeza said every moment with her husband was memorable and despite being far away from each other physically they still felt each other’s presence.

“So whenever he travels to places or I travel to places we are on FaceTime so it’s like we’re traveling together and we have a great time and every little thing that we do becomes beautiful with each other’s company. The distance doesn’t matter at all. Her love message to every couple was:” Love and care for what you have right now because this time will not return.”
