ATTORNEY-GENERAL Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has labelled Opposition MPs as a bunch of people who deliberately hide facts.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday, he said the level of hypocrisy from the MPs was a concern.

“They don’t know how to remodel themselves to be an effective Opposition and they are not used to being in the Opposition.”

He said the Opposition held up the Bible during the swearing-in ceremony where they declared to uphold the Fijian Constitution, but were the first ones to degrade the Constitution.

Opposition Leader Sitiveni Rabuka and his MPs, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said, delivered speeches through this week based on ethnic lines.

He said Mr Rabuka also became prime minister under the racist 1997 Constitution where corruption escalated and the National Bank collapsed.

Mr Sayed–Khaiyum said in their speeches the Opposition MPs failed to give a philosophical outlook of this country and the policies to bring about inclusiveness not exclusiveness.

“We cannot run a modern State based on ethnic division. The fundamental issue is that we help people based on their needs for who they are, not about their ethnicity.”
