MALOLO women were given sewing machines by Government in a bid to empower them to earn an income for their families.

While handing over the equipment to women from Solevu, Yanuya, Tiliva and Yaro Villages, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation,
Mereseini Vuniwaqa said the machines would provide a gateway to provide employment opportunities and income generation for the women groups.

“The empowerment through access to education and government services, through domestic violence laws, through equal opportunities for employment in government, services and benefits is available across government,” she said.

One of the participants Mereula Sito Nawaqa, a retiree, said it would help women contribute to their community.

“This training is an eye-opener because we have learnt to use the raw materials around us to do screen printing, tie-dyeing and floral arrangements, which can all be a source of income to the women’s group,” she said.
