The Fiji Sugar Corporation has been told not to sell trucks, tractors and harvester it owns, said Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh.

FSC had advertised in January that it was disposing of eight mechanical harvesters, 114 cane haulage trucks, 30 Mahindra tractors, and some farm implements.

“The tenders were called before the election, when I came in I saw that they have finalised the tender but they are yet to give a report but I decided and I have asked the management of FSC to hold,” he said.

“A lot of growers over the last three years were dependent on these trucks and tractors and harvesters so we said just don’t rush.

“We may dispose some trucks but not all because the trucks cost a lot of money for maintenance but the tractors we will have to keep them because a lot of growers if they hire private machineries the rate is pretty high.

“And FSC subsidise rates for them for ploughing and other farm maintenance so we will hold that for a while and we will decide later.”
