The Ministry of Agriculture has set out its 2024 to 2028 Strategic Development Plan. In a recent workshop held in Lautoka, stakeholders from the agriculture sector met to formulate strategies to map out the way forward for the ministry.

While addressing ministry officials, Animal Health and Production officer in charge Avinesh Dayal encouraged participants to share their experiences on what worked and didn’t work in the last Strategic Development Plan.

“Your thoughts are very important to set the next Ministry of Agriculture’s Strategic Development Plan Vision, Goals, required skills, risks, competency development and objectives that will improve growth and expansion of the agriculture sector,” Mr Dayal said

He said youths were one age group which the ministry needed to utilise for the future of the sector.

“Youths have a lot of potential but we need to harness their energy and innovative ideas and bring them to a platform that will increase agriculture exports and decrease imports bill.”

He also encouraged the participation and opportunities for women to provide innovative solutions that would ensure equal access.

“We have to ensure that we practice responsible agriculture that leaves no one behind including the future generation that is to come.”

The training was facilitated by representatives from the European Union funded Technical Assistance for the Support to Sustainable Rural Livelihoods program.
