The Just Play program has seen the progress of its volunteers to the national level.
Fiji Football Association Just Play manager Filomena Liku said it started in 2009 they had been grooming and developing young children. She said it was good to see women taking part.
In having equal participation on the sporting field, she said they had seen good results in terms of their programs that were supported by Team Up Fiji and funded by the Australian Government.
“We strive to promote general equality with the kids in the community that serve,” she said.
“There is more interest from girls than boys. “Now with the success of these programs, we’ve seen more participants making a name for themselves.
“We have one of our Just play recipients, who is now in the national women’s team, Cema Nasau.
“She started in the kid’s category and move up to the youth’s level and is now part of the national team which is the main idea of setting up this program.
“We have other players such as Saula Waqa, Nabil Begg, Koleta Nadrakano, Sitiveni Rabenia, and volunteer Sairusi Nalubu.
“This shows how that we are on the track in exposing more young talents.”
Just Play in partnership, with the Oceania Football Confederation, Fiji Football Association and Football Australia aim to help children grow, learn and explore through football.
She said they would continue with their program and better their service from last year and got more children to be part of the program.
She said the aim was to reach out to the outer islands to get their programs through.
