2022 General Election: Villagers want more info

Tukuraki villagers in the interior of Ba are pleading with political parties to provide Fijians in remote parts of the country with information during the campaign period.

Villager Vilimaina Ratu said the few messages they heard on the radio gave them very little knowledge of political party leaders’ numbers and very little knowledge of party policies.

She claimed the lack of understanding placed them in a difficult situation when it came to choosing who to vote for.

“Representatives from the Fijian Elections Office visited the village on Tuesday and distributed the voter instruction booklet to us,” Ms Ratu said.

“This booklet has helped us in the past few days in terms of information on candidates and the numbers of those we will vote for.

“We will vote next week and we do hope that whatever little knowledge we have now will help us inside the polling station.”

Ms Ratu said they hoped to have some political parties visit the village to campaign and gain an understanding of the issues that affected them.

She claimed that because that has not happened, the villagers would just cast their vote based on individual preference.
