FIJIAN Drua player Te Ahiwaru Cirikidaveta has set himself a goal next year to represent the Flying Fijians at the Rugby World Cup in France.

The 24-year-old, who plays for the Tasman Mako in the New Zealand provincial championship, is putting in the hard yards with the Drua in pre-season training for the start of the 2023 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition.

“My goal is to make it to the Flying Fijians team for the Rugby World Cup in 2023,” he said.

“I want to wear the white jersey for that.”

Cirikidaveta, who plays lock, flanker and number 8, said it was pretty tough coming from New Zealand and trying to acclimatise to the hot and humid Fiji weather.

“I have really enjoyed it over here, working hard with the boys getting ready and putting myself forward and coming up to game capacity,” the Tasman Mako player said.

“I believe the off-season training will always be our best preparation for the competition. There are a lot of sacrifices coming over from New Zealand, especially getting used to the heat in the country. But I have really enjoyed it over here and working hard with the boys.”

Cirikidaveta was at Denarau on Saturday for the launch of the Drua jersey for the 2023 season.
