Our manifesto is ready and our provisional candidates have been briefed on our vision and policies, says The People’s Alliance deputy leader Manoa Kamikamica.

He said this in response to queries from this newspaper yesterday.

The Fiji Times had asked Mr Kamikamica about the party campaigning without a manifesto, to which he said their candidates had been briefed on the party’s vision and policies as their manifesto was complete and would be published soon.

He reiterated the need for a caretaker administration to look after the business of government and allow the FijiFirst members to campaign on a fair and level playing field.

When asked if The People’s Alliance would have a caretaker government if they were in power, Mr Kamikamica said that was part and parcel of democratic principles and process.

“The principle of integrity – ensuring things are free and fair. Having a caretaker government is a fundamental part of that and in this case, he (Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and FijiFirst party general secretary) has decided not to have one and you clearly see the result of it,” he said.

Mr Kamikamica also questioned the delay in announcing the election date and claimed that by doing so, the ruling administration was deliberately jeopardising the integrity of the general election.

“We should not have political opportunists taking advantage of public trust and abusing it for their own re-election.

“Such leaders should be voted out. Two months out from the end of the year and 97 days to the last possible day of holding the general election, we are still in the dark.”

Mr Kamikamica said “these types of abuse of power” would only compound the challenges in delivering a free, fair and safe election.

He also called on voters to check their voter cards and ensure they were updated and ready for the 2022 polls.
