Two teams from the Central Division will fight for the Vodafone Super Deans Championship under-14 trophy next Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
The final will be between Ratu Kadavulevu School and Marist Brothers High School.
They won their respective semi-finals at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday with RKS given a ticket to the final after a 13-all draw against defending champion Suva Grammar School. RKS was given the win because it scored first.
Marist beat Queen Victoria School 11-8. RKS skipper Kalaveti Matanioro said toppling the champion was a tough task.
“They were the better side,” the Nasauvere, Wainimala, Naitasiri lad said.
“It was hard trying to beat them, but to be given the win was rewarding. For us, we kept on fighting.
“We came with our school motto, which is ‘Dui mate ga nona ucu ni vatu’. That’s what motivated us because we had the school waiting at Delainakaikai with the good news that we will bring back.
“We were cautious because of the new laws. We are going to the final and we will do our best.”
His team manager Risiate Karavaki said the Deans Trophy legacy was in the blood of all RKS students.
“Our win was through hard work and team work. I was lost for words, but just to thank the boys for their gallant effort. We are not huge in size, but we play with our hearts. That’s why they gave their best,” Karavaki said.
“We told the boys that no matter what happens on the field, continue to be humble and maintain discipline and accept whatever result we’ll get in the end.”
RKS scored two unconverted tries through Sanaila Rokotuivna and Jese Ligaiviu, and a penalty.
