National football Captain Roy Krishna has announced that he has signed a one-year deal with Hero Indian Super League (ISL) club Bengaluru FC.

According to a statement by Krishna’s manager and wife Naziah Ali Krishna, this new signing sees him remain in the ISL until the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.

The star Fijian forward and former captain of the ATK Mohun Bagan side, where he played his first three seasons in India, became the first Fijian to play in the AFC Cup.

He represented his former club (ATKMB) two years in a row at the AFC Cup.

During his three-year stint, he was the joint top goal scorer twice and the winner of the golden ball in the 2020/21 Season.

This move will also see Krishna playing alongside Indian captain Sunil Chettri as forwards and he will reunite with former teammates from ATKMB Javi Hernandez, Prabir Das and Jayesh Rane.

The 2022/23 Indian Super League season is expected to kick off in October, however, Krishna is headed to India soon to start preseason with the club in the Indian city of Bengaluru.

Krishna said he was excited to head back to India after spending three successful seasons.

“I am very pleased to sign with Bengaluru FC. It’s an exciting new opportunity for me and my family. I’ve always admired their style of play and I’m very pleased to have been approached to play for them,” Krishna said in the statement.

“It’s very exciting for me at this stage of my career knowing that I still have a lot to offer and I have so much to look forward to when I go to Bengaluru. I’m looking forward to training under the guidance of new coach Simon Grayson and reuniting with some of my former teammates including Javi Hernandez, Prabir Das and Jayesh Rane.

“I first spoke to the coach in the initial stages of our contract negotiations and I was very impressed with his philosophy, his plans for the team including me and he convinced me that it was a good move for my career.”

Krishna is expected to travel to India next week.
