Fiji Swimming is heading into calmer waters after the fall of seven records during the National Schools Swimming Championship at the Suva Olympic Pool on the weekend.
Fiji Swimming is happy with the result, saying more talented swimmers are expected to be unearthed in the near future.
FS president Ben Rova said the event was a platform to find young and raw talented swimmers.”Apart from those who were breaking records, other swimmers really improved in their time during the competition and this is a good sign,” he said.
He said the national team to the Commonwealth Games in England was filled with young swimmers.
“Having young swimmers are easier to nurture to become better athletes as they still have a lot of time to develop their skills.”
Meanwhile, Marist Brothers High School won the National Schools Swimming Championships secondary level while Nadi Airport Primary won the primary schools division.
The Flagstaff-based MBHS walked away victorious with 25 gold, 14 silver and eight bronze medals totaling 47 medals.
Nadi Airport Primary School scooped 17 gold, 20 silver and 11 bronze medals for a tally of 48 medals.
Meet director Patrick Bower acknowledged all the officials who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. He also thanked Suva City Council for cooperating with the organisers.
“I thank all the staff, officials and others involved in making the competition successful.”
A total of 400 swimmers from 40 schools around Fiji participated in the competition with 66 officials.
