Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama must clarify whether or not he asked Agriculture Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy to “preach racial politics” at a temple in Wairuku, Rakiraki, last Saturday, says National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad.

While speaking at the event, Dr Reddy told devotees at the Wairuku Gangamma Temple that Mr Bainimarama had to be born to give Fijians of Indian descent equal citizenship status.

“Reddy’s statement that Bainimarama asked him to relay this message is extremely serious,” Prof Prasad said.

“He said the PM asked him to make this statement when he (Reddy) spoke to him on Saturday morning. The question that arises is whether or not Bainimarama asked Reddy to make this gutter-level racist statement clearly aimed at emotional blackmail in an attempt to win votes,” Prof Prasad claimed.

“It is this kind of racist filth that is being preached by Reddy and obviously other FijiFirst puppets, okayed by the PM.

“If it isn’t, what action is Bainimarama going to take against Reddy for using his name in an attempt to give credibility to such racism?”

Prof Prasad claimed that if Mr Bainimarama does not clarify his position, then he would give credibility to the fact that his ministers were acting on his instructions to practise and preach gutter-level politics. Questions sent to Mr Bainimarama on the comments made by Prof Prasad remained unanswered when this edition went to press last night.
