After a weekend of interesting events here at our HQ in Suva, it is good to just get back into the groove so to speak.
The big one on the front page of The Fiji Times’ edition for Tuesday, May 17 is about Unity Fiji Party leader Savenaca Narube expressing shock that the Government is allowing the full brunt of international price hikes of food and fuel to be fully borne by the Fijian people.
He said the recent increase in bus fares would hit the poor the hardest and also push others below the poverty line. The former Reserve Bank governor said the possibility of the Russia-Ukraine crisis escalating and India threatening to stop wheat exports would further deteriorate the situation in Fiji.

- NIKO Nawaikula and Ratu Suliano Matanitobua’s cases in the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court are contextually related. Defence lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo said this while replying to Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) lawyer Ashish Nand’s submissions in response to the application for the recusal of High Court judge Justice Dr Thushara Kumarage.
