Former Nadi Magistrate Siromi Turaga’s provisional candidacy for The People’s Alliance party was announced on the second anniversary of the end of his contract with the judiciary.

While speaking at the announcement of 12 provisional candidates in Nadi on Monday, he said May 9 would hold a significant place for him and his family.

“You wouldn’t believe this, but on May 9, 2020, this is what Fiji Sun put on its first page, ‘Magistrate Turaga Contract not renewed – Acting CJ’,” he said.

“Tomorrow will be two years exactly since I left the judiciary.”

The Nairai, Lomaiviti villager said he believed he was meant to contest the 2022 General Election.

“I stand here because I cannot see the injustice going on in Fiji. “It must stop now.

“I joined because I believe this party has the vision that ordinary Fijians have the strength to create a new Fiji.

“We are here to create history.”

A lawyer by profession, Mr Turaga was formerly a resident magistrate in the Nadi and Ba Magistrates Court until May 2020.

He is married with four children.
