Newly sworn in parliamentarian Mere Samisoni warned voters to stay away from “opportunists” and those who, “jumped from one party to another”.

In her maiden speech in the House yesterday, she said it was the “ultimate crime for leaders” to be elected into public office and not complete their term and people should not vote for them.

The new Social Democratic Liberal Party MP also said one of the founding principles of SODELPA strongly encouraged was to have God-fearing, honest and hardworking people lead the nation.

“Sadly, there has been a lot of upheaval in SODELPA lately, people like me have never lost sight of the bigger picture,” she said.

“The need to serve our people and improve their livelihoods is a burning desire that drives our days and nights.”

Ms Samisoni said she had applied and was accepted to contest in the upcoming election in a bid to influence policies.

She encouraged the people to be wise as the country headed to the polls.

“Some will come around asking for votes again shamelessly. After disappearing from them following 2018, I trust people would shun such politicians and likewise refuse to vote for leaders who deserted them before completing their terms in Parliament.

“When politicians do not respect the will of voters and ditch the parties only after two years in Parliament, how can they assure that they will not do the same again after the 2022 elections.

“We have politicians jumping around from party to party.

“As someone who has lived life to the full and witnessed a lot of political evolution over time I look at such people and encourage all of whom I know not to support them.”
