Infrastructure and Meteorological Service permanent secretary Taitusi Vakadravuyaca opened the Fiji National Climate Outlook Forum this morning by acknowledging the ongoing support of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and Pacific Community (SPC) towards the Fiji Meteorological Service.
“In order to guide effective development and applications of climate services around the world, the Global Framework for Climate Services, GFCS (in short) was established in 2009,” Mr Vakadravuyaca said while delivering his opening address at the Tanoa Plaza Hotel in Suva.
“GFCS enables societies to better manage the risks and opportunities arising from climate variability and change, especially for those who are most vulnerable to such risks.
“To implement GFCS at the national level, meteorological services around the world including FMS have ventured into organising regular National Climate Outlook Forums (NCOFs).
“NCOF (in short) is an essential mechanism for promoting inter-agency coordination and regular multi-stakeholder dialogue between information providers and users at the national level.”
