Tourism Fiji has indicated the industry has been doing really well in the first week after opening international borders on December 1.

During the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association media session held yesterday, Tourism Fiji chief executive officer Brent Hill said apart from a few minor teething issues the sector seemed to be getting on track as tourists were spreading across the country.

“I think the biggest thing is, we wanted to see that tourists were spreading across Fiji, we wanted to see that our testing protocols were working so that any positive cases that were coming through were put into isolation and that process was being dealt with,” he said.

He added there were guests not only in Denarau but also in places like the Mamanucas, Taveuni and Pacific Harbour with accommodations like Nanuku Resort and the Pearl Resort recording its first international guests.

Tourism Fiji had recorded about 1300 tourists coming into the country in one day which was the highest record so far. Mr Hill also said their biggest record of the number of flights coming into the country in one day was around 10.

“Our website traffic and our social media traffic is up in the last week around 20 per cent.

“So it’s lifting really strongly which is also great,” he said.
