The family of Timoci Lusio Tikomainiusiladi, the teenager whose body was found in the Natabua Creek in Lautoka late last month, wants police to reopen investigations into his death.
His aunt, Eseta Leba, claimed there were two witnesses whose statements had not been recorded by police.
She visited the Lautoka Police Station on Monday to lodge a report but was unable to do so because police officers said the case was closed.
“There are two witnesses who saw what happened to Timoci the night before his body was found and their statements were not taken when investigations were going on,” Ms Leba claimed.
“This was why I went to lodge a report because I am not satisfied with his cause of death being drowning.
“The injuries on Timoci’s face when I saw his body at the morgue said otherwise and drowning cannot be the only cause of death.”
Ms Leba claimed the water in the creek he had fallen into was not deep and the 17-year-old could have saved himself if he had fallen into it.
She also claimed there were visible injuries which left the family in doubt as to the official cause of death.
In a statement earlier this month, police had said the teenager drowned, based on the results of a post-mortem examination.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the divisional police commander had liaised with Ms Leba on the issue.
