Government recovered $484 million from the 2020-2021 budget, according to Government’s fourth-quarter appropriation statement that was tabled in Parliament recently.
With a total 2020-2021 National Budget of $3.6 billion, Government spent $3.1 billion between August 1 2020 to July 31 2021.
The report said 51 ministries and government entities saved money in the 2020-2021 fiscal year except for pensions, gratuities and compassionate allowances payments that exceeded payments by $3300.
Miscellaneous services with a budget of $542 million had savings of $82 million after an expenditure of $459 million.
The Women, Children and Poverty Ministry did not use $21 million from its $156 million budget after spending $135million between August 1 2020 to July 31 2021.
The Fiji Roads Authority saved $62m from its total budget of $339m and the Water Authority of Fiji did not use $20m from its total 2020-2021 budget of $180m.
The report said the Health Ministry saved $45.4m after spending $348m out of its $394m budget.
According to the report, the Education Ministry didn’t use $18m from its total $450m budget in the 2020-2021 fiscal year.
The appropriation statement shows the Fiji Police Force saved $18m from its total budget of $200m while the Fiji Military did not use $1m from its $84m budget. A total of $60m was saved on “finance charges on public debt” after $369m was used against a budget of $430m.
The Agriculture Ministry did not use $18m from its total budget of $65,289,410. Government saved $27.6m on “Higher Education Institution” allocation after it used $53,730,416 against a total budget of $81,385,814.
The Sugar Ministry managed to save $229,234 after spending $64,654,159 from its budget of $64,883,393.
The appropriation statement stated these figures were un-audited and ascertained from the Financial Management Information System and the Budget Division in the Economy Ministry.
