ASP Caginavanua dedicates achievement to his late father

Enhancing the capabilities of the Fiji Police Force’s young leaders has come to fruition with the graduation of Assistant Superintendent of Police Ilaitia Caginavanua from Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia.

ASP Caginavanua who has been given an opportunity to work with his Australian and regional counterparts whilst awaiting repatriation home, was a recipient of an Australian Awards Scholarship.

He graduated with a Masters in International Relations and National Security and a Graduate Diploma in International Relations and National Security from the prestigious university.

The Nabukelevu-i-ra, Kadavu gentleman who has more than 20-years of policing experience dedicated his achievements to his late father who passed away while he was in Perth pursing his studies, his son, family and colleagues.

He has acknowledged the support of the Australian Government and the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho.

ASP Caginavanua has served in various units including Community Policing, Criminal Investigations, Human Resource Management, International Relations, Strategic Planning, Intelligence and Traffic.

He has also held Operational Command positions in the FPF’s Northern and Eastern Divisions and Operations HQ and acted as the Director International Relations.

In March 2019, he was appointed by the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Secretariat as the Pacific Advisor under the Seconded Police Officer (SPO) Program to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to lead a Design Team for the Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC) which was successfully launched in 2020.

Brig-Gen Qiliho commended and congratulated ASP Caginavanua for his achievements and while acknowledging the support of the Australian Government and the Australian Federal Police he said the institutional intent on enhancing the capabilities of its young leaders remains a priority to ensure future leaders and middle managers are able to effectively tackle new and emerging policing challenges.

ASP Caginavanua is now on Secondment with the Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC (with other Regional Police Officers who have also completed their studies in Australia) under the Australian Awards Scholarship’s (AAS) “Enhanced Degree Program” to assist the development of Capability Delivery Initiatives for the 21 PICP member police forces.
