ODPP: 16 charged for serious criminal activities in July

A total of 16 people were charged for non-sexual violence offences by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) last month.

This was revealed today by the ODPP when releasing the serious crime statistics recorded for July this year.

According to the ODPP, a total of 17 counts of separate incidents were recorded in July and the offences were aggravated robbery – one, aggravated burglary – three, theft – two, assault causing actual bodily harm – two, act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm – four, criminal intimidation – one, obtaining property by deception – one, falsification of accounts – one, attempt to commit arson – one, and damaging property – one.

Of the 17 accused persons, one was a juvenile and two were police officers.

The juvenile was charged with one count of aggravated burglary and one count of theft of assorted goods worth $6640.

A 34-year-old police officer was charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm to his 33-year-old wife, however, the matter was withdrawn after the victim admitted to making a false complaint.

The other is a 49-year-old police officer who was charged with damaging property.

The ODPP stated there were 10 victims of the 17 counts of separate incidents and there were three incidents where the accused and victim were related to one another.
