As the Fijian Government had announced in the 2021-2022 National Budget, it will now pay for fees to obtain a birth certificate for the next 12 months effective from August 1, 2021.

The Government stated that all Fijians could obtain a copy of their birth certificate, as well as that of their dependent children, from any Births, Death and Marriages Office without the payment of any fees.

“Parents registering the birth of their child can have a copy of their child’s birth certificate provided to them at no cost,” the Government stated.

However, it stated that the late birth registration fee of $21.80 would still be applicable in cases where births were registered after one year.

“We strongly encourage all parents to promptly register the birth of their newborns.”

Also, for the next 12 months effective from August 1, 2021, Fijians are advised that they can obtain a copy of the death certificate of their immediate family members without paying any fees.

“All persons registering the death of their immediate family members can have a copy of the death certificate provided to them at no cost.”
