Ba businessman Sanjenesh Nadan is heartbroken after a major fire at the Ba Central Arcade destroyed his electrical accessories and farm equipment shop on Sunday night.
The owner of Vision Marketing Electrical Contractors Pte Ltd said he could not fathom the fact that the business he built in one year was completely razed to the ground within minutes.
“At around 7.30pm I got a call from a police officer that there is a fi re in the arcade and when I came, I saw flames coming out from inside the second-hand shop next to my shop,” Mr Nadan
said.
“It took a few minutes only for the fi re to spread to my shop and I stood there helpless and it was so heartbreaking to see my investment gone just like that.
“I was struggling to cover for my rents and expenses and I was hardly getting any profits and have been running on a loss for the past six months because of the pandemic and this happened again.”
Mr Nadan said he was hopeful the pandemic could be over soon and his business could bounce back, however, the recent fire took to the ground his hope of sustaining his business.
The Ba businessman has also requested the government to help him and other businesses whose shops were destroyed in the fire get back to some normalcy.
National Fire Authority chief executive officer Puamau Sowane said six retail shops were destroyed in the fire.
He said the windy conditions at the time of the fire incident hampered the fi re crew’s efforts to fight the fire, but the team fought hard to stop the fire from spreading to other nearby buildings.
Mr Sowane said they continued to work with police to ascertain the cause of the fire.
