Lautoka Ratepayers and Residents Association acting president Narayan Reddy says they were deeply concerned with the growing cases of COVID19 in the Sugar City.

He said the association has been particularly concerned with the cases being reported from informal settlements.

“COVID has come back to Lautoka and the biggest problem that we would see now is with the informal settlement because houses are so clustered together that the further spread of the virus will be inevitable,” he said.

“So I believe that the Ministry should come down hard and maybe lockdown Lovu for instance just to ensure the virus is contained.”

He added that a birthday party where 14 people attended in Rifle Range was also an issue of concern.

“We have to adhere to these restrictions because these were put there to put a stop to the spread of the virus.

“People’s behaviour also needs to change.”

Lautoka City has about 14 active cases.
