Contact tracing will be intensified in the Suva-Nausori corridor as health officials work to contain a “potential high risk case for transmission”.
In announcing five new cases as of mid-day yesterday, the Ministry of Health said it was seriously concerned about case 190 — a security company driver who had been working until Wednesday, May 19.
The man is from the Vunimono/Nadali cluster identified on Thursday.
The five new cases are members of an Extra Supermarket staff who live in Muanikoso, Nasinu.
The ministry said the staff’s entire household placed themselves in home quarantine from May 11 and because of this “diligence”, Muanikoso would not be locked down.
The statement stated one COVID-19 patient had recovered, leaving Fiji with 61 active cases in isolation facilities.
Two are border quarantine cases, 49 are locally-transmitted, and 10 are under investigation to determine the source of transmission.
Cases under investigation are considered as community transmission until proven otherwise Fiji has a total of 195 cases with 130 recoveries and four deaths since the first case on March 19, 2020.
There are 2625 primary contacts of previous cases who are being monitored in Suva.
Of the 2625, 1619 have been cleared with 1006 still being followed up.
Meanwhile, government’s official social media page has advised that schools will reopen on June 21.
