Families who are in need will have food delivered to their doorsteps.

That was the reassurance from Economy Ministry manager and co-ordinator infrastructure sector Kamal Gounder as food ration distributions for families during this lockdown started yesterday.

He said the helpline 161 was flooded with people who were in need of food.

“We are accessing the Vodafone and Digicel platforms data to see how many requests are coming in,” he said.

He said they had noticed there were several requests from one particular family.

“We clean all those data and then do the distribution.”

Mr Gounder said they had sufficient packs for distribution.

“Those who genuinely need food to send the request. We would like to deliver it as quick as possible to the genuine families.

“We have two more days to deliver to the families who need food rations.”

Teams from the Ministry of Health, DISMAC, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Land Transport Authority, the disciplined forces and the Water Authority of Fiji are assisting in the distribution.
