An unemployed Nadi widow is scraping the bottom of the barrel to put food on the table for her family of two.

Aishmeen Lata said she solely relied on her two married daughters for survival.

“I have a daughter who is in Year 1 and when school resumes, there will be a lot of pressure on me to prepare her for school,” the 43-year-old said.

Ms Lata said her daughters supported her whenever they could, but they also had their own families to take care of.

The Votualevu, Nadi, resident said the second wave of COVID-19 was making survival very difficult for them.

“I have not received the $90 cash assistance from the Government plus I don’t receive any social welfare payments as well,” Ms Lata claimed.
