The Education Ministry has advised students, teachers, and parents that a set of planned supplementary programs will be shared through the Schools Broadcasting Unit and Fijian Broadcasting Corporation from Monday next week.

According to the ministry, the daily programs will be aired weekdays on the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio Fiji One and Radio Fiji Two radio stations from April 10, 2020.

The ministry will also continue to upload supplementary worksheets and learning programs on the official website and social media page.

Education Ministry’s permanent secretary Dr Anjeela Jokhan said the worksheets were not compulsory.

She said students who could access these could use them for revision and for those students who were unable to access the resources; they should revise their term one notes, workbooks and exam papers.

Ms Jokhan said for primary school students, the ministry had prepared literacy and numeracy worksheets and for Year 8 to Year 13 students, they could access subject-specific worksheets. She said this could be accessed from the ministry’s website www.education.gov.fj.

“We have ensured that these workers are only one page per week so students are not overburdened,” she said.

“It is important that we allow students free time at home and to create safe learning spaces for them.”

She has also reiterated that teachers during this extended school break, should prepare lesson notes and teaching materials.

Ms Jokhan also confirmed that the service provided to students during this lockdown was provided through the generosity of the service providers.

“Our Walesi and FBC programs will be aired starting Monday and they have generously decided to air it and not charge us but if we have to pay, we will have to pay because, at the end of the day, we need to make sure that we provide the best possible learning resources for our students.”

School is set to resume on May 24, and this would depend on the advice given by the Health Ministry.
