Students and teachers of Adi Moapa Secondary School who came to Viti Levu to participate in the Maritime Zone and aren’t able to travel back home due to the lockdown were provided with assistance in the form of food rations by the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts (MEHA).
The Ministry reached out the 19 student-athletes and four teachers from the Vanuabalavu based school that are on lockdown in Cunningham yesterday.
Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar visited the students and teachers to hand over their much needed supplies and ensure that they are being taken care of.
“It is unfortunate that the students are currently unable to return home, as a result of the COVID-19 health and safety measures that have been put in place, but it had to be done for their own safety and for the safety of other Fijians,” Ms Akbar.
“As always, the safety and welfare of our young ones is our utmost priority, and I want to reassure everyone, especially the parents of the students, that although this is a difficult situation, and may be frustrating, their children are safe and in good hands.”
Ms Akbar also thanked the organisations and individuals who came forward to assist the students and teachers during their time of need.
“It warms my heart to see how our community came together to assist our young ones and their teachers by providing them with shelter, food rations and other necessities over the past few weeks.”
“It hasn’t been an easy time for many, but our Fijian spirit still holds strong and there are Fijians who are willing to reach out and help. By working together, we can help keep Fiji, and each other, safe during this time.”
