Members of the Duavata Devo Babaas rugby 7s team from Bua are eager to show their ware in their first 7s tournament on Viti Levu this weekend.

The side from the inlands of Bua comprises farmers. They have been on Viti Levu for over a month to prepare for this weekend’s event.

“It has been an inspiring number of weeks for our young warriors who first stepped on Viti Levu few weeks ago,” team official Salacieli Tabalailai said.

“Since then they have experienced their first gym training session and used some latest and high-tech training equipment.”

The 18 players who make up the team are from three villages namely Naiviqiri, Nasau and Naivaka in Navakasiga.

“Every player is a yaqona farmer and watching them play 7s back in Bua, we thought it was high time we bring them to the mainland to expose themselves.”

Tabalailai said it had been an experience for his young troop who was learning every day and eager to get into action against some big teams.

“They are spirited and determined and those are the best kinds of team you want to see play.”

Rugby 7s great Waisale Serevi completed his 14-day quarantine last week and joined the team during a training session at Natali grounds in Nadi.

“You can imagine what it was like for these boys to have a one-to-one session with Serevi.

“It was a moment to remember for them and we thank Serevi for being the legend he is.”

The Axcellerate-sponsored side will be among the teams to look out for at this weekend’s Fiji Bitter Malomalo 7s.
