FIJI Women’s Crisis Centre co-ordinator Shamima Ali says the national curfew has to go.

Speaking at the “COVID-19 One year on listening forum” held in Nadi yesterday, she said Fiji has had no community transmission of COVID-19 in a long time and she was concerned about the spike in domestic violence cases since the curfew was implemented from March 30 last year.

“It is a human rights violation, limiting and restricting movement of people,” the human right advocate said.

Fiji Human Rights and Anti Discrimination Commission director Ashwin Raj said “restrictions on rights and freedoms on the grounds of public health must be based on scientific evidence, must neither be arbitrary nor discriminatory”.
