SHIPPING Services Pte Ltd has rebranded its logo and restructured their company operations by introducing new services alongside existing ones which they were set to provide to their customers.

These in-house services include packing, shipping, storing, chilling, clear or move house, trucking, lifting on and off, weigh and even flying cargo in pieces, pallets or containers according to the managing director Bernard Hong Tiy.

“This week is the 29th birthday of Shipping Services but I guess more importantly we are rebranding, our logo has changed but we are also launching a new organisation in terms of what Shipping Services used to do before,” he said.

He said they used to carry containers for the Maersk Line from port to port and those containers all needed trucks to be transported to their destination, cleared and then brought back to their depots.

“In the past Shipping Services never did any of those services, so we never trucked containers ourselves, or customers had to do the moving themselves and the customers also cleared the containers.

“Now Shipping Services is offering an all in package so basically door-to-door logistics for our customers.”

Mr Hong Tiy said when their founder Francis Hong Tiy set about to start his own shipping agency he had a good idea of what he wanted, a relatively small but multiskilled team of experienced professionals providing the best linear agency services possible in Fiji.

“And to make available to shippers and consignees in Fiji a shipping service that is knowledgeable, proactive and empathetic to your needs.

“In those early years we took part in the trials for export of Fiji ginger, we helped link up a little known tuna cannery in Levuka called PAFCO to tuna eaters in the UK.”

Mr Hong Tiy said they had researched and executed the best way to get container loads of Fijian cosmetic creams and oils across the Pacific Ocean to Las Vegas.

He said they were also there in the formative years of the export of certain artesian water from the highlands of Ra.

“Shipping Services turns 29 years young this week and like the millennial we are, we are evolving with the requirements of the logistics industry and the needs of our customers.

“Paradoxically in the past shipping line agents were very happy to have you collect a container from them, you pack it and we gladly ship that container across the sea almost anywhere in the world literally thousands of miles away.

“As long as we didn’t have to clear a container truck in to your door there in likes the paradox of shipping.

“That was way too much work for us that was the domain focus and cartage companies not shipping lines but as my shipping colleagues here would attest to this is all changing and we at shipping services is no different acknowledging where we have come from and remembering those that set the course of our voyage we now present this to you.”
