NO one is exempt from quarantine — not even government ministers and high-level civil servants, says Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong.

He explained the quarantine requirement was only changed for some diplomats and high economic value persons who have had quarantine conditions replicated for them in pre-arranged alternative sites, with full costs met by the consul, or company or individual.

“This does involve a prolonged period of pre-arrival site inspection and sorting pre-agreed measures that ensure the quarantine conditions are replicated well and maintains the overall objective of quarantine,” he said.

“There is definitely no minister or high level civil servant that is exempt from quarantine. ”

Sometimes we have problems with a quarantine facility that require transfer to another facility and this has been done for all incoming travellers as the need arises.”

Dr Fong said currently Fiji had 788 people who were quarantined in seven facilities.

He said all government dignitaries returning from oversees would have to be quarantined once they landed in the country.
