All Whites star Chris Wood grabbed Burnley’s winner in a 3-2 English Premier League home victory over Aston Villa.

The 29-year-old targetman brilliantly headed home Dwight McNeil’s 79th minute cross to complete an unlikely comeback for the Clarets at Turf Moor on Wednesday (Thursday NZ time).

It was the first time in over a year that Burnley had scored three Premier League goals.

Wood was delighted to get his fourth goal of the season – and 39th Premier League goal overall – and bag a valuable three points for Burnley.

“There was lots of action at both ends. They are a good side, and we needed to come out after half-time with a bit more gusto,’’ Wood said in a post-match television interview.

“We got the equaliser and had grit and determination to come back again. It was fantastic from the lads.’’

No Premier League player has scored more headed goals than Wood – who is tied on 15 with England captain Harry Kane – since the Kiwi’s Burnley debut in August 2017, according to BBC Sport.

Wood told Burnley’s website it was “on me to start firing’ after fellow strikers Ashley Barnes, Jay Rodriguez and Matej Vydra had had some success in recent league and cup games.
