Residents living along Holika Rd in Votualevu, Nadi are calling on relevant authorities to upgrade their road.

Area advisory councilor Pundit Vijay Sharma said students were late to school on Tuesday because of the poor road conditions.

According to Mr Sharma, students were delayed by two hours because the bus they were travelling in was stuck in mud. He said he had to look for a tractor to help tow the bus out.

“I had to search for a tractor early in the morning and the bus was only pulled out after several attempts,” he said.

Mr Sharma said the earliest bus in their area made a complete round about 6:45am with the next bus at 9am.

“Students and working people catch the earliest bus if they want to reach their destination on time.”

He claimed the road which was recently graded was not covered with a layer of gravel.

“When the road was graded, the soil from the side drains was spread across the road, and gravel was not used, thus obviously it would become unusable during this rainy season.”

He said they had contacted the FRA to fix the road.

Questions sent to FRA remained unanswered when this report went to press.
