Education ministry assessing damages to schools

The Ministry of Education is racing against time to get damaged classrooms and schools ready for the 2021calendar year.

Education Minister Rosy Akbar, who is on a northern tour assessing damages to schools by Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston, said with schools opening in a months’ time,

We really have to get the buildings up in order or make alternative arrangements so that our students can come back into classrooms come 2021,” she said in a video posted by the Fijian Government.

The minister added after assessing the damages, a decision will be made on what is to be done.

“We are going to work with the heads of schools and management so that we can start clearing the debris up and see what damages need quick repairs and which schools will have to be rebuilt,” she added.
