Kumar assaulted at remand centre; released on bail

Former teacher Kishore Kumar was granted bail by the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Mr Kumar who is charged with six counts of indecently annoying a person and one count of criminal intimidation. appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili  for his bail hearing.

He is alleged to be involved in an online attack on National Federation Party parliamentarian Lenora Qereqeretabua by posting live videos on his “Kishore Kumar Publications” Facebook account, labelling her a porn star.

In court, defence lawyer Abhishek Patel told court that they had filed and served their formal bail application to the State on Tuesday this week.

Police prosecutor Inspector Jiten Singh told court that they had received the bail application yesterday and since circumstances had changed since the accused had been allegedly assaulted at the Suva Remand Centre, they would not be objecting to bail.

He was released on bail on the sum of $700 non cash.

The matter has been adjourned to January 11, 2021 for further disclosures.
