Fijian President Jioji Konrote says COVID-19 shutdowns have cut directly into students’ access to education.

“We are blessed that young people are free to continue Fiji’s education revolution in classrooms across the country,” Mr Konrote said in his address as he opened the 2020-2021 Parliament session in Suva today.

“Every year, we add new graduates to the most talented and capable workforce in Fijian history. That surging human capital is a precious resource that must not be wasted,” he said.

He said as economies far and wide adapted to the new economic realities of this pandemic and beyond, “young Fijians must be afforded the opportunity to bring their new ideas to bear”.

“Young Fijians’ great ambition is rivalled only by their innovative potential, which can spur the badly-needed modernisation of businesses, entire industries, and indeed in the civil service as well.”
