One hundred and seventy-two Fijians departed for Australia yesterday under the Pacific Labour Scheme.
Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum addressed the departing workers and urged them to take advantage of the trip.
“All of you have been given this opportunity and I would like all of you to make use of it,” he said.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum reminded them not to be swayed by the “bright lights” of the land Down Under and stick to their goals for the three years of their contract.
“Previously some Fijians under this scheme had gone off-track due to various temptations, so please always remember, that you have families and responsibilities back here.”
He said the workers would also have the advantage of developing new skills during their course of work.
“You will along the way pick up various skill sets that you may not necessarily have had the ability to learn in Fiji.”
The A-G urged the workers to adhere to the protocols of the Australian government and to work hard.
