Outgoing Republic of Korea envoy to Fiji pays farewell courtesy call

Outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Fiji, Shinhee Cho paid a courtesy farewell call to the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday.

Mr Bainimarama expressed the Government’s appreciation to Ms Cho for the great support she had provided to Fiji and the region towards the advancement of shared commitment on sustainable development and rebuilding efforts amidst the dynamic challenges faced by the region, in terms of climate change and COVID-19.

He thanked the Government of the Republic of Korea for its strong partnership which is reflective of the 49 years of friendly relations and its contributions to Fiji’s national development priorities.

Ms Cho however conveyed that the bilateral relations between Fiji and the Republic of Korea is envisaged to strengthen in the key areas of collaboration in addressing climate change, environment, education, health, technical training and cultural exchange programs.

The strengthened cooperation between the two countries is recognised through coordination of innovative partnerships in Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and assistance in respect to the Solar Energy Project, Climate Change and Health Project, provision of technical experts, technical training, educational, livelihood programs and cultural exchange programs.

Mr Bainimarama said Fiji looks forwards to the constructive outcomes of next year’s 4th Korea-Pacific Islands Foreign Minister’s Meeting (ROK-PICs FMM) in pursuing strengthened partnership and enhance the evolving opportunities and collectively address the regional challenges.

He conveyed the best wishes of the Government and the people of Fiji to Ms Cho in her future endeavors.

Ms Cho thanked the Government for the enhanced collaboration with the Embassy of Korea and the KOICA Office in Suva.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Honourable Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the Fijian government for its cooperation and support during my three-year tenure as the Ambassador of Korea to Fiji.

“In particular, I acknowledge our close cooperation on the international stage.

“In addition, I highly appreciate the Fijian Government’s effective response to COVID-19 under the Prime Minister’s distinguished leadership, and hope that Fiji’s economy will overcome the difficulties of COVID-19 as soon as possible.

“As next year marks the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and Fiji, I hope our two countries will continue working together to deepen our friendly relations,” Ms Cho said.
