The Opposition spokeswoman on Education Ro Teimumu Kepa has welcomed the decision by the Ministry of Education in terminating Kishore Kumar, a computer science teacher, after posting derogatory comments on social media against a member of Parliament Lenora Qereqeretabua.

However, she said it would be interesting to see the outcome of the investigations carried out by police.

“While the decision by the ministry is welcomed, as a matter of public interest, we look forward to the outcome of the investigations carried out by police and we hope that he will face the consequences of his actions and those in the high echelons of government that were behind him as he has claimed,” she said.

Ro Teimumu said it was troubling that there were teachers such as Kishore Kumar in our education system who were supposed to nurture and educate our future leaders, yet they behaved in a manner that was not conducive in any learning environment.

“It has certainly tarnished the image and achievements of our teachers who have and are sacrificing their valuable time to educate our young population.”

“At this point, I also plead to our good and hardworking teachers out there to continue to serve and educate our young people in the best and most efficient manner and not to be derailed by Mr Kumar’s ill behaviour.”
