A stop departure order was issued against a former Small Claims Tribunal clerk facing corruption-related charges at the Nadi Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Sachin Asre who is charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one count of obtaining a financial advantage appeared before Magistrate Nilmini Fernandez.

Asre is alleged to have advised claimants at the Small Claims Tribunal that he would make arrangements for the service of their claims to respondents and obtained $490 from them, which he was not eligible to receive.

According to FICAC, the offence is alleged to have been committed between May and November 2019.

FICAC lawyer Darren Hickes appeared for the prosecution and informed the Court that first phase disclosures had been served.
