SSP Waqa takes up director CID post

After successfully graduating from Sydney’s Macquarie University with a Masters of Criminology, Senior Superintendent of Police Mesake Waqa today took up his posting as the Director Criminal Investigations Department in the Fiji Police Force.

Acting Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said SSP Waqa’s experience would complement the knowledge gained from his studies at Macquarie University.

He also acknowledged the Australian government for providing opportunities for senior and middle managers to further their studies in specialised fields.

SSP Waqa who is originally from Burebasaga Village in Rewa spent the last 18 months studying at the prestigious learning institution supported by the Australian government.

The Masters of Criminology area of studies included fraud, corruption, domestic violence, cybercrime, and it helps with improving understanding of those who commit the crimes, how society responds to such crime, and how the impact of crime can be alleviated.

The degree helps develop skills in advanced criminology theory, applied criminological research, and criminal justice policy analysis.

SSP Waqa has served for more than 31 years as a member of the Force.
