An unplanned power outage was experienced by residents in Ba, Tavua, Vatukoula and Rakiraki after a bush fire burnt a power pole along the 33,0000 volts transmission line from the Vuda Switching Station to the Rarawai Substation in Ba.

Energy Fiji Limited CEO Hasmukh Patel said the burnt power pole now posed an imminent safety risk and needed an urgent replacement.

He said in order to replace the pole, he said the transmission line had been isolated, which affected customers in Ba, Tavua, Vatukoula, Nadarivatu, Rakiraki to Navesau yesterday.

“Temporary field network alterations have been carried out to temporarily restore power supply to the affected areas,” Mr Patel said in a statement.

“Upon compulsion of the repairs, the temporary network alterations will be reversed, before power supply will be fully normalised.”

He said the reversal of the temporary alterations would require power supply to be de-energised again.

He said this would be carried out today.
