THE Ba football team is confident of scoring its 18th win during the 42nd edition of the Battle of the Giants tournament which is sponsored this year by Punjas.

“Definitely. We are confident. We believe in our players which is the main thing. They have produced the desired results so far during the VPL matches,” said Ranvir Singh, the team manager of the Priceline Pharmacy sponsored Men In Black side.

He said the side looked forward to its first match against Nasinu.

“We lost to Nasinu in the Vodafone Premier League. We will come out firing for Nasinu. We want revenge,” he said. Singh cautions teams in their pool.

“We have played Labasa and Suva during the VPL recently. We have defeated both the teams and they were experienced outfits.

“If the players follow the game plan as set out by our coach, surely we will come out victors against those teams also.”

The Varavu, Ba native confirmed the side is undergoing a training session per day in readiness for the BOG.

“The team is doing one training session a day. We have been playing consistently for the past three weeks. We want to ensure that the team peaks during the tournament and not to suffer from player burnout,” he said.

Ba is the most successful team at the annual tourney with 17 wins since the tournament’s inception in 1978.

It has been the runner-up on seven occasions.

Ba’s first win was in 1979.

The team last won the BOG in 2018 after accounting for the Capital City boys 2-0 in extra time at Lautoka’s Churchill Park.

The BOG group stages will take place from August 7-9 at Lautoka’s Churchill Park.

The semi-finals and final will be held at the same venue a week later.
