A year after being arrested and charged for unlawful assembly, 29 Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) workers from Lautoka have been discharged by the Magistrates Court.
Appearing before magistrate Sekonaia Vodokisolomone, the WAF employees were officially discharged after representations were made by defence counsel Mark Anthony to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
According to Mr Anthony, the charges were dropped for all 29 workers who were charged for allegedly gathering in Lautoka on April 30.
He said while the charges had been dropped against his clients, they had also made a submission to the court for each employee to receive items that were confiscated by police at the time of the arrest.
Those discharged by the court include Sekove Naivakatoka, Tukeni Sucuvou, Atunaisa Baleiwai Vuidreketi, Epeli Ratabacaca, Aisea Baleilekutu, Manueli Yawayawa, Sitiveni Kunataci, Duilomaloma Saumaki, Marika Banuve, Atonio Rokoura Nabakeke, Tuliasi Yalayatora Tamanivalu, Meli Tacuvameke, Aisake King, Lare Moceyawa, Vonipate Tauvoli, Ilisoni Taginadavui, Samuela Tukana, Etuate Naba, Antonia Niumataiwalu, Emosi Ravato Naiceru, Tevita Rauga, Savenaca Waqavou, Wame Savou, Litia Ratu, Lemeki Uluikadavu Lesumailiapani Vatuloka, Mosese Duilomaloma Saumaki, Viliame Momo, Samisoni Tagane, Epeli Kurukitoga Tikomaisinaimalo and Maika Tikomailepanoni Tavutu.
