Despite the political differences, New Zealand and Fiji share common ground on eradicating violence against women and children.
Speaking at the women leaders’ lunch at the New Zealand High Commissioner’s residence at Ratu Sukuna Road in Suva this afternoon, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said women leaders should be encouraged enough to address the issue.
Some of Fiji’s women leaders were hosted to lunch at the residence where they were given the opportunity to share their experiences with Ms Ardern.
She also acknowledged Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa for putting a strong emphasis on gender equality and releasing the national action plan on eliminating violence against women and girls.
“With all those initiatives, I think it demonstrates common ground, that for all the differences that we may have in our societies, between New Zealand and Fiji, there are areas where we are absolutely united and the progress we wish to make,” Ms Ardern said.
