As we mark the beginning of the Lent period, let this be a period for us to return to God.

This was highlighted by the head of the Catholic Church Archbishop Peter Loy Chong during the Ash Wednesday mass held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva today.

He said this Lent period should be a time of joy and hope.

The theme for this year’s Lent period is God’s creation of women and children.

At the Wesley Methodist Church at Butt St, followers were reminded of the need to continue fasting, praying and giving.

Hundreds of people from all walks of faith gathered at churches around the country today for the Ash Wednesday service to mark the beginning of the Lent Period.
