THE outbreak of novel coronavirus in China has taken its toll on the supply of disposable eTransport cards to Fiji.
In a public notice, service provider Vodafone Fiji stated many factories were on lockdown mode in China, prompting the delays in production and shipping of the disposable cards.
As a precautionary measure, Vodafone Fiji has advised commuters who use the Fijian bus transportation service to top-up their permanent eTransport cards and to plan their travels properly to avoid any disappointments.
The public notice stated the delay was expected to affect the travelling public for the next three to four months until supply normalised.
“Disposal card stocks are running low currently and we anticipate out of stock situation from March, 2020 onwards until we receive new stock on hand,” the public notice read.
“Under normal circumstances, we would have had sufficient stocks to cater for the anticipated demand during this period.
“However, given the current virus outbreak and measures enforced by the Chinese government, extended delays could be expected. If you do not have a permanent card, you can get one from your nearest Vodafone outlet.”
The service provider is seeking the understanding of the public until supply normalises.
